Neapolitan Community:

A Communal Waste Solution

Naples

Responding to the growing waste management issues in the city of Naples, 'Community' proposes to uses organic waste for the benefit of the existing building's residents.

Surrounding around an anaerobic digester, which processes residents' organic waste, producing bio-gas, digestate and sludge. These substances are used to sustain a combined kitchen and dining area and adjacent urban farming solutions. These plants are maintained by the digestate, a nutrient rich liquid which can be enriched to create a fertiliser, and the water captured from digestate processing. The fruit and vegetables are then used by the community encouraging social engagement as well as providing a source of food in a struggling area.
